We were greeted on our arrival to Yellowstone Lake by a Bison Jam. The Bison population in Yellowstone National Park is continuing to grow and they own the right of way on the highways. They move on their own schedule so, unless a park ranger happens to be there to move them with his or her vehicle, you just settle down for a wait until they are ready to move. We arrive at Fishing Bridge RV Park early enough to spend the afternoon touring Hayden Valley. That was after we stopped by Yellowstone Lake Hotel to make dinner reservations at their dining room. Wednesday evening was the earliest we could get in but it was really worth it.
Bison Jam
On Tuesday morning we got up early to catch the sunrise in Hayden Valley and then a tour of the geyser basins. We hiked in to Ice Lake to check out the fishing. Nice hike but no fish.
Hayden Valley Morning
We made our tour of the geyser basins, visiting a few we hadn't seen previously. Our timing was also fortunate in that we caught a number of the geysers erupting.
Morning Glory Pool
Riverside Geyser
Old Faithful Geyser
We didn't see a lot of animals on our tour but did get a few good shots of an Osprey.
OspreyOn Wednesday I went fishing again, this time in Yellowstone Lake and on the Yellowstone River. Then we drove to Sylvan Lake for a picnic.
